Skalø Sweater

€6.95

Skalø Sweater is a co-design by two knitters from different countries, inspired by slow island days, salty air and the soft warmth of the spring sun. It’s a relaxed drop shoulder sweater, combining honeycomb cables with colourwork into a fabric that feels easy to wear and easy to love. A sweater made for wandering and dreaming, like the memory of carefree summers by the sea.

Construction

Skalø Sweater is a top-down sweater with dropped shoulders and triangular back shaping. The sweater can be worked with colorwork including a contrast color, or it can be worked with simply one color and replace the colorwork with twisted purl stitches. First the back is worked with German Short Rows in stockinette. Once short rows are complete, the pattern is worked back and forth according to the chart until the desired armhole depth. Back stitches are placed on hold while stitches are picked up individually for each shoulder, with increases made for the neckline while working in the pattern. The two shoulders are then joined for the front and the front piece is worked back and forth until the desired armhole depth. Then the front and back pieces are joined and the rest of the sweater is worked in the round according to the pattern. The body is finished with wide 2x2 ribbing (k2, p2). Sleeves are worked individually in the round by picking up stiches around each armhole and working in stockinette with a small cable strip and gradual decreases to give sleeves a slight narrowing shape. Colorwork is worked just around the cuff off the sleeve before working in wide 2x2 ribbing. Stitches are then picked up around the neck opening, and the neckband is worked in 2x2 ribbing and folded down.

The pattern is in English.
