Simpukka Sweater
Born from classic cables and the shells that wash up on shores, the Simpukka Sweater carries the feeling of protection and peace. Simpukka is the Finnish word for shell, a symbol often associated with safety. The shell motif in the center is framed by cables, creating something that feels both timeless and comforting. Like something the sea would offer you.
The Simpukka Sweater is worked top-down and features a shell motif in the center and cables on either side of the front and back. Starting with the back panel, German Short Rows are worked back and forth to shape the shoulders and then the back piece is worked to just below the underarm in the cable and shell motif. Stitches are then picked up for the shoulders and increases are worked at the neck edge for the shoulders and neckline while working in the pattern. After the front piece is finished, the front and back pieces are joined for the body and the rest of the body is worked in the pattern in the round. The body is finished with 1x1 ribbing and Italian bind off. Stitches are picked up for the sleeves and worked in the round in stockinette to the wrist, with gradual decreases to give a narrowing shape. The sleeves are then finished with 1x1 ribbing and Italian bind off.
